Fundraising - For your convenience  - two ways to support our project

Vote for us - closing date 20 January 2019

St Alfege Church has been shortlisted for a grant of £30,000 from the Royal Borough of Greenwich Growth Fund towards our "For your convenience" project.   The project will provide two new toilets that are wheelchair accessible and incorporate baby changing facilities in the church.

The final decision will be taken by the Cabinet but will take into account the votes of local people.

If you live in the Royal Borough of Greenwich (Blackheath and Greenwich area) please would you give your support by voting at    You do need to register if you are not already signed up for a Royal Borough of Greenwich account and this is very easy and quick to do.

The St Alfege project is in Area two - Blackheath and Greenwich. The closing date is 20 January 2019.

St Alfege Church is a gem of English Baroque architecture, the first of six London churches that Nicholas Hawksmoor designed, and is well known for its architectural merit and its superb acoustics. As a result, it is a popular venue for concerts and recitals, and we have a lively programme of musical events every week throughout the year. However regular audience members at St Alfege Church will also be aware of one area that could do with improvement – our toilet facilities - we only have one loo in the church.

We plan to remedy this by building two new accessible toilets in the church at the north entrance for all our visitors and concert-goers as part of our major restoration and access project Heart of Greenwich – Place and People.
The new toilets will be completely self-contained units built within the stairwells, and will leave all the original features of Hawksmoor's and Grinling Gibbons'  interior untouched. This will be expensive at just over £112,000. but will greatly improve facilities and comfort for concert-goers, visitors and congregation alike for many years – and many concerts to come.

New toilets - detail

To help us realise this ambition we are inviting you to support our For your convenience campaign which is specifically to raise fund funds for the new toilets.

Now is a particularly good time to donate to the campaign. The trustees of the Peter Harris Bequest have generously offered to match every donation made pound-for-pound, and every £1 raised will release a further £4.17 in Heritage Lottery fund grant.  So a gift of £5, for example, will be worth a total of £51.70 to the project – even more if you are a UK taxpayer and complete a Gift Aid declaration.
You can make a donation online using the Virgin Money Giving link,
or by sending a cheque, payable to St Alfege Restoration Account, to:
